Grand Prix for ‘The Black Box Garden’ in Moscow

Posted on 21st September 2016

My second trip to Russia this year turned out to be another amazing experience, meeting some great people and creating some wonderful memories. It wasn’t all pleasure… I was there to work, building a show garden at The Moscow festival of Gardens and People (Sadi I Ludi). The garden was called ‘The Black Box garden and you can read some more about the concept here.

This has to have been my biggest show garden challenge to date giving myself only four days to plant the garden (one of which was rained off with the heaviest rain in Moscow for 130 years).  Although drained and exhausted by the end, it was worth the slog as ‘The Black Box Garden’ was better than I hoped it would be and achieved the Grand Prix award!

Lots of people to thank; Irina Savvateyevoy who was a brilliant sponsor giving me complete creative free reign and her nurseries provided stunning plants; Elena Belyayevoy at the helm of a brilliant team of hard landscapers and joiners; my planting team volunteers made up of Valentina, Katya, Sasha, Yulia and Olga… thank you for putting up with me and working so hard; Elena Markitantovoy who has been a constant support through out the year and helped me get to and from Russia safely and everyone else at the festival I met.

Some photos and a short video of the garden:
