Otterhayes pro bono project

We are delighted to share that our recent pro-bono garden for Sense Otterhayes residential home in East Devon featured in the Society of Garden and Landscape Designer’s monthly journal.

The project transformed an under utilised courtyard into a multi-functioning space for the residents of the home and their carers.

As a Studio we put people at the centre of our design process. Understanding how the garden will be used as well as the individual needs of those that will use it is so important to unlock the magic that the garden has to offer.

In this case our objective was to get Stephen and Colin, the residents of the property, outside more to enjoy the fresh air. We designed wider paths that are easy to navigate with clear sight lines around the garden to desirable spots. A cosy timber building to hang out in during the cooler months, a sun trap for a bit of afternoon relaxing, a table for your morning cup of tea and, as Stephen loves golf, a small putting green.

This wonderful project was a joy to be a part of. Thank you to Urban Earth who built the garden, Rainbow Plants who supplied the plants and the planting team comprising of residents, carers, the onsite gardener David, Matthew and his partner Richard.

We can’t wait to see how this garden develops and continues to provide joy for years to come.
